Honouring Lon Kimmel's
Memory, Together

Alonzo Gentry Kimmel - “Lon” - left this life on Thursday April 17, 2025. Lon will be missed by all who knew him, and should be missed by those who only knew of him.

Join us here in remembering Lon as the joyful scoundrel he was, by sharing your photos and memories of Lon for his family, and joining us in Muskoka this summer for an event to celebrate his life.

In Loving Memory

of the rebel who 'danced to the beat of his own drummer'.

His whole life, Lon loved riding motorcycles, operating chainsaws, grilling meats, and smoking herb. To his family’s knowledge he never did all four at the same time, but we would not have put it past him to try (and to succeed with aplomb!). Lon was honest, steadfast, supportive, and loving, and while his rebellious streak ran deep and wide from a very young age, at five-foot-two-and a half-inches tall he was probably the shortest guy around that family and friends would each “look up to”...

Memories and Stories of Lon

"Lon was my mentor in my teens. He came back from Thailand and lived alone out in Mentor, Ohio, and I would ride my bike to go visit him.

"He taught me the fine art of making a grand tunafish sandwich from a can!

"We had our adventures to the Kimmel cottages in Canada two very snowy winters which I still remember so clearly it is like it was yesterday.

"While others my age payed me no mind, Lon took a genuine interest in me like no other adult did during those tumultuous times of the late 60’s, and helped me find my own way."

"I remember when I first met Lon, I felt like he was watching me to make sure I did everything right.

"Then, by the time I was done, I felt comfortable with him and he was with me too.

"He let a curse word slip and started to apologized again and again – I said 'hey no need to apologize, I use that word myself!'.

"We both laughed and laughed, and from there I knew we would be good friends!"

"I have lots of good memories of Lon that go back to 1993, the year we bought our cottage.

"I first met Lon when I was ice fishing that winter and ever since admired his quiet strength of character, his love of nature and his friendly and at times shy nature.

"He was obviously Wendy's soulmate and I know we will all continue to feel his presence in the years to come, at the lakes and beyond."

Please share your stories with us below so we can all celebrate and share in the truly singular life that Lon Kimmel lived!
